Football prediction glossary: key terms explained

Prediction games are simple, but they come with a bit of jargon. This glossary explains the terms you'll see on Pickz and in any score-prediction game, in plain English.

Correct result

Getting the outcome right — a home win, away win or draw — without necessarily nailing the scoreline. It earns you the base points for a match.

Exact score

Predicting the precise scoreline, like 2–1. It's harder than the result alone and worth a much bigger reward — exact scores are usually where leagues are won.

Bonus team

Your chosen favourite team. Every prediction involving them is worth extra points, so a good bonus pick can give your total a real lift.

Multiplier

A boost applied to later rounds — knockout stages and late gameweeks — so the same correct prediction is worth more the closer a competition gets to the finish.

Mini-league

A private league you create and share with friends. Everyone predicts the same fixtures and competes on one leaderboard for bragging rights.

Deadline

The cut-off for locking in a prediction, usually kick-off. You can change your pick freely until then; after the deadline it's set.

Auto-fill

If you miss a deadline, Pickz can automatically fill in a sensible prediction so you're never left with a zero — keeping the league competitive top to bottom.

Tournament picks

Longer-range calls like group winners, finalists and your overall champion. They're locked in early and carry bonus points if they come good.
